Recommended Pregnancy Apps:
Baby Center: Baby Center is an easy-to-use app that gives weekly updates on expected changes in your body (everything from when you will start showing to answering “why is my skin itchy?”) and fun updates on baby’s development (did you know baby forms taste buds in week 15?). This app includes a doctor-authored “Is it Safe” feature which includes answers to questions about everything from hair dye to skiing to safety of intimacy. Helpful tools include a birth club social network, belly photo tracking, a contraction timer, a pregnancy symptoms page, birth class videos, birth plan ideas, and hospital bag checklists.
The Bump: The Bump is a fun, colorful app with a simple summary of what to expect each week of pregnancy, thousands of helpful articles, rankings of all the “must-have” baby products, and easy weekly to-do lists. One added bonus is that this app is helpful beyond your pregnancy— it includes information about baby & toddler stages and development! All of the information can also be accessed from a computer.
What to Expect: Often called the pregnancy “bible,” What to Expect When You’re Expecting book has been around seemingly forever. This app includes weekly videos about your developing body and baby and info about everything from nutrition to exercising to preparing for labor. There are support groups with thousands of parents (groups for gestational diabetes support, cultural groups, and miscarriage support). There is a community feature that allows you to connect with other expectant parents in your area (to use this feature you must allow the app to access your location; please be cautious with this feature).
Ovia Pregnancy: Ovia is a customizable app that has you plug in your pregnancy goals and health info in order to get personalized information about your pregnancy. The app lets you look up common symptoms, the safety of certain foods and medications, track your baby’s growth, symptoms, photos, and shows you how big your baby’s hands and feet are. Plus, you can ask anonymous questions to other parents in the community section.
WebMD Pregnancy: WebMD Pregnancy is good for expectant moms wanting solid health information at their fingertips. The app features an appointment organizer, a symptom tracker (a great place to log small concerns for your next doctor visit), a contraction and kick counter, a place to save belly photos, and weekly articles with topics relevant to your stage of pregnancy.
Sprout; Spout includes a unique “Next Generation Interaction” feature, where the app generates lifelike videos of how your baby moves and looks each week in utero and how fast their heart is beating. There is a pregnancy timeline that shows you when to see your doctor, doctor-authored articles, checklists, and pregnancy counters.
For Dads:
ProDaddy: ProDaddy offers articles and tips that focus more on co-parenting responsibility, like encouraging dads-to-be to participate in mom’s baby shower, using paternity leave, and more. There are quick articles and tips for first-time dads, deeper dives on topics that require more time, and updates on your baby's development along the way.
Daddy Up: Daddy Up is an outdoor themed app that teaches fathers-to-be about their pregnant partner and developing baby. Features include a customizable daddy checklist (what to do in each trimester and how to prepare for the birth), glossary of terms, and journal log.
