As a physician, I’m deeply concerned about what’s buried in the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” just passed by the House. This isn’t just a budget. It’s a direct hit to the health of millions of Americans. The bill proposes $880 billion in Medicaid cuts over the next decade — a lifeline for low-income families, children with disabilities, and seniors in nursing homes. It eliminates enhanced subsidies for Affordable Care Act plans — the very assistance that helps a 62-year-old diabetic patient afford insulin and doctor visits. Without it, premiums soar and coverage evaporates. We’ll see millions lose coverage. That means more untreated illness, more preventable hospitalizations, more lives cut short not by disease — but by policy. This isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. These are real people. My patients. Your neighbors. Our parents and children. Healthcare is not a luxury. It’s not partisan. It’s a basic human need. We must do better.
