About Dr. Ruth Haskins
Dr. Ruth Haskins was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in a
rural suburb of that city. She completed her undergraduate as well as her medical
training at the University of Pittsburgh. She did her internship and residency
in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis, AFB,
completing her specialty training in 1989.
Until 1993 she served on active duty
in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Major before hanging up her uniform
to practice private medicine. Just prior ending her military career, she was
awarded a Meritorious Service Award for her work as Chairman of the Department of
Ob/Gyn at Scott U.S. Air Force Base in O'Fallon, Illinois, supervising 18 physicians
and overseeing several thousand deliveries per year.
She moved to Fair Oaks, CA and practiced at Mercy San Juan Hospital and Sutter
Roseville hospitals in 1993. As her family grew she sold her private practice in
Carmichael and joined the U.C. Davis Medical Group, where until June of 2008 she
practiced at the Women's Center of Folsom.
Dr. Haskins has been actively involved in the political process, at our state
capitol and in the halls of congress. She is a passionate advocate for women's
health issues. Dr. Haskins married her attorney husband, Christopher, in 1987.
She has two sons, Nicholas and John, and is an avid reader and devoted fan of
the Pittsburgh Steelers.
